JEWELLERY CARE
Your jewellery is a valuable asset. If handled properly, it can be passed down from one generation to the next. A little care will keep them shining for even longer.

Keep jewellery away from light and heat:
Sunlight poses a threat not only to your skin but also to your precious jewelry. Prolonged exposure to sunlight can dull or damage gemstones like sapphire, kunzite, topaz, and shell cameos. Delicate gemstones like pearl and ivory can bleach due to intense light. Conversely, some gemstones like amber can darken over time due to excessive light exposure. Furthermore, heat reduces the internal moisture content of gemstones, which can cause them to crack or discolor. Opals are particularly susceptible; they can turn white or brown, develop cracks, and lose their iridescent play of color.

Keep your jewellery away from chemicals :
Exposure to chemicals can damage or discolour silver and may damage some colored gems. Even everyday substances like hairspray, lotion, perfume or other cosmetics can contain chemicals that will permanently damage the surface of your pearls and other delicate or porous gems (like turquoise). Always remove your jewellery before putting on lotions and cosmetics, getting into swimming pools or doing strenuous activities such as gardening and workouts

Clean your jewellery with care:
The best way to clean your jewellery is also the simplest way. Use a soft brush and "colgate powder" combined with water and gently clean your jewellery regularly.

Store your jewellery properly and safely:
Never toss your jewellery on top of a drawer or dresser or keep them exposed to sunlight and extreme changes in temperature. Most jewellery come with a box or pouch at purchase, and these can be used for storage as well. Sterling silver, especially, needs to be kept in an anti-tarnish bag or cloth, and never exposed to air except when being worn. Pearls and opals, on the other hand, draw moisture from the air, so storing your opal or pearl jewelry in a dry area, such as a safe deposit box, can sometimes do more harm than good. It is best to look up how to store your individual pieces properly.
